| The Mining Engineering is one of the main Branches of
Engineering situated amidst the century old Kolar Gold Mines.The Department is
headed by Prof.Rama Nand Guptha. The Department has well established lab
and has an underground Mine-Model, the only one of its kind. The department has
a strong industry-institution interaction to enable exposure to the latest
technology trends for students and teachers and to impart practical training.
The Bharath Gold Mines Limited ( BGML ) and National Institue of Rock Mechanics
( NIRM ) a research institution extends facility for the training of students in
various project works. Recent additions to the lab include a sophisticated
Electronic Survey Station and a Electronic Precision Level.

This Lab equipped with various instruments, apparatus like Home Safety Lamp, Electric Safety Lamp, Anemometer, Digitan Anemometer, MAS Co Detector, Fire Extinguishers, Axial Flow Fan, Centrifugal Fan, Ventilation Pressure Measuring Instruments, Illuminometer, Gas Masks, Tube apparatus Gasterring Chamber and Seld contained breathing apparatus etc. The special features of this lab which contains atleast about 50 colourful paintings clearly indicating the key features and working of various mine environmental equipments. The gastering chamber is also unwired by DGMS for conducting Gastering Examination.

Rock Mechanics is a truly interdisciplinary subject,with application in Geologly and Geophysics, Mining, Petroleum and Civil Engineering. Rock Machanics is the branch of Engineering concern with the Mechanical properties of rock and application of this knowledge to engineering problems dealing with rock.
The following are the equipments used in Rock Machanics : UNIVERSAL TESTING MACHINE, SLACK DURABILITY APPARATUS, POINT LOAD INDEX TESTER, BRAZILIAN TESTER, ROCK PERMEABILITY, PROTODYAKNOV TEST APPARATUS.

Mine Surveying is an inseparable component of mining.Mine Surveying is a branch of mining science and industry which is concern with the surveys on the Land surface and Underground during the prospecting and extraction of mineral deposits and the construction of mining plants.The results of surveys are then used for plotting the plans of mining workings and bedding conditions of deposits and also for the solution of various problems of the mining geometry.
The following are the equipments of the survey lab : THEODOLITES, LEVELLING, EQUIPMENTS, PLANETABLE EQUIPMENTS, PLUMS BOB, U-FORKS, SPIRIT LEVEL, THROUGH COMPASS, ALIDADE.

This lab deals with the upgradation of ores by benefication process. The important equipments availabale in this lab are SIEVE SHAKER, BALL MILL, JAW CRUSHER, ROLL CRUSHER, FLOATING CELL, MINERAL JAW, WIL FLY TABLE, ROCK POLISHING MACHINE.

This is unique lab one of its kind in Indian Mining Institutes. The lab is built in the Campus of its institute itself. This lab is equipped with various supports used in undergrounds, track havwelog, drainage systems. vertical raise, inclined raise, man holes etc. This lab is also used by final year mining students for conduction corelation survery, underground traversing etc.
